1. Homemade Slush.
I came across a grape slush recipe which I tried, and my kids loved it!!!
3 cups grape dark grape juice
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pour the grape juice into a medium saucepan. Add the sugar and stir to mix. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, or until reduced to 2 cups . Stir in the vanilla.Pour into a 9" or 10" freezer proof glass pie plate and set aside to cool.
Place in the freezer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours , or until the edges are mostly solid and the middle is still liquid . Mash with a fork to break up any large crystals.
Return to the freezer for 1 hour , or until frozen through but not hard. Break up the crystals with a fork before serving. Makes 4 servings.
Note: After the second freezing , the slush can be stored in a covered container for up to a day before serving. Remove from the freezer and let stand at room temperature for 5-10 minutes before serving.
2. Iced Herbal Teas
Make the tea as directed and let it chill over night in the refrigerator. To sweeten add honey or sugar. Serve with ice. My kids over came their craving for the unnatural , unhealthy, HFCS filled , colored drinks and juices.
My kids and I prefer Red Raspberry Leaf Organic Tea.
3. Homemade Snow Cones
4. Homemade Lemonade or Limeade
Nothing beats fresh lemonade.Get an affordable citrus juicer if you don't have one, and start juicing. If you prefer pink lemonade, add some grape juice for color.
5. Chilled Oranges
Keep oranges in the refrigerator. Just slice and serve. Kids (and adults) will love the cool, juicy oranges in the hot days.
6. Homemade Ice Pops
I tried getting my kids to eat the healthy ice pops from the grocery store , but the taste wasn't "kid-friendly", plus they were over priced. We decided to make our own.All I needed was bpa free ice pop makers , juice, and a place in the freezer. My kids loved it, and now they make their own .
